Sometimes it feels as if one is underwater. In this piece by Rhiannon Morgan, the maritime colors and details are beautiful, especially when perched in one's home. The shapes are wavy and cellular, bubbling and oceanic, with their turquoises, royal blues, blacks and whites. And then the fleshtones of the LADY, glowing in a refraction through the liquids that cover her.
It is easy to look for a long time at this piece of art, to see how many layers Annie made, and to enjoy the variety in the visual pattern. The eyes can enjoy every corner of this artwork, even the edges, which maximize the texture of the paper and the quality of the paint. The process of painting is as beautiful as the final product, and with all of these layers, I'll bet this process was visual splendor.
Painting can be many things for a painter: therapy, a party, a meditation, zen, a breakthrough. One can think out the thoughts and the struggles while one paints, one can immerse oneself in the colors and shapes. The images can be how we feel.
For me, viewing this painting, I see a woman keeping her beauty even though she may be submerged in challenges and pain. The art can take the pain away. And then, we get to the next cycle, and we have this gorgeous painting as a testament to female strength, survival and elegance.
