American women today seem to have many liberties - we are free to choose a career path (sort of) and live where we want (to a certain extent). We can date and marry whom we choose (kind of). And we can entertain ourselves with any number of hobbies (if we have the time and inclination). Yet have we been treated respectfully in our lives? Are we liberated from the patriarchy in our ancestry? This self-portrait was done when I was a New Yorker in my 30's and had certain freedoms and a career trajectory. I appreciate the serious look on the artist's face, focused on the task at hand. The florals add a feminine touch, which is one of the themes running through the collection. Oil on canvas. Size: 20" x 24" (unframed).
