Rhiannon Morgan, Gouache on green paper 2025 - 1 of 2 panels
I'm enamored with these floral patterns. This work and its sister panel exhibit a balance of classic and techno, with a dose of surfer aesthetic.
The bright colors are dreamy in their raver-neon tones. The patience exhibited is remarkable. "Was this a meditative process?" I wonder. In the course of painting 120 flowers by hand, each with multiple layers, what was the artist thinking? Did she stop thinking anything except color and form?
The eyes have options and start seeing the handful of flower types. The central nude figure is drawn with fluid lines, holding the floral pattern in place or interrupting it - however one chooses to interpret it.
Annie begins these works with geometric compositions and then applies the colors. As a geometry afficionado, I find the structure a huge part of the appeal. Penciled lines remain visible, for those who want to piece together the process that resulted in this colorful, soft work.
