This is a casual masterpiece by Anne Pentland made for Nimbash in 2017. Her oil paintings resemble Renaissance works, but this piece retains her skilled artistry and shows a freedom and fluidity approaching urban graffiti. The viewer can identify layers painted over each other that present numerous realities. Is this symbolic about people, such as the birds and the bees? Who is this female? What is the white mass? Do we see a tire? (A van is in this painting, she has stated. It is almost unrecognizable in the background layers - and brings another detail for the eyes and questioning to focus on.) The artist has stated that the raison d'etre for this piece was her concern for bees becoming extinct.
