WINTER '26 - We are now ONE Cultural Events, ONE Cultural Reviews & gypsysungallery

a day after 2nd viewing of Tau Lewis piece “Opus – The Ovule” at ICA SF

I went a 2nd time to see the Tau Lewis piece, and what resonated with me one the 2nd visit, as a fellow person of tropical heritage, was the hanging flora, like the trees and plants in the Caribbean and nearby Florida. And how Lewis installed her hanging floral garland -- not drilled or anchored or pinned to the structure of the building or the sculpture; but rather, tied on with twine AROUND the structures so as to not penetrate or damage it, which is a method I often implement and that I consider a "female workaround." So this delicate-ness was a key to understanding more about the feminine spirit of Lewis's sculpture. To explicate: Males have a ram rod and barrel forward. Like in football.  Whereas women have hips and can sway to the side, to protect or to position themselves, or to guide toward a more roundabout strategy, the aforementioned "workaround."  Often, female-originated strategies are non-invasive or "softer" solutions. I'm referring to business as well as to art installations, rigging of ninja lines, loading of dishwashers, and other case studies where these analogies can be applied.
